| On 13th June 2007, I was support crewing on a trip with 850 Lord Nelson down to Weymouth. At Weymouth my dad phoned with some terrible news that Uncle Mike, one of Dads closest friends had passed away that morning due to a long illness. Dad and Uncle Mike met when Uncle Mike came to Portsmouth to study at university here and a firm friendship of sum 40 years began.
Only a week or two previous we received news that Uncle Mike was getting better and treatment had been going well. Unfortunately Uncle Mike took a turn for the worst a few days before and gradually got worse and passed away that the morning of June 13th. Sometime prior to all this, around July time 'ish' last year Uncle Mike had informed me of his vast collection of photographs from steam in the 60's and how some would look good on here. I duely agreed to this and over the last year prior to Uncle Mike's passing he duely loaded all of his original photo's onto his pc and started editing them and after all his efforts he created a few and sent them down to me only a few weeks before he died. I have also included some modern day ones he took over the last couple of years also, it was also a great pleasure to meet up with Uncle Mike in Bury in the early part of the year for the Spring gala if memory serves me correct so he could see Lord Nelson in the flesh instead of viewing my pictures on here. These pictures are all posted in memory for Uncle Mike so RIP Uncle Mike, happy steaming. |
